Two Minute Presentations.

I unfortunately couldn’t make my elective this week, for unforeseen reasons, which was annoying because I am told I missed a really good thing. Here is a quote from a fellow electivite’s blog about some of the stuff I missed:

“Do humans experience the world analogically? Vision is analogue, yet language is digital..

Nam June Paik, Random Access.

Access to knowledge does not make us more knowledgeable but it’s what we do with the knowledge.

New step forward for the humankind since the letterpress.

Countries would now bypass analog and become digital. Less of a divide??

Digital is another reality, it defines reality and also blurs the concept of reality. Reality reflects the virtual. Like the haptic arm, the physical movements of the arm are mimicked.

Digital world created open source mentality, my neighbors are just as important as me.

Digital is a song by Joy Division produced by Martin Hannett. Drum sounds mixed with synthesizers and digital filters.

Digital is and echo of the physical world, illusion of intelligence, disposable friendships.

Analog needs tuning, digital is there.

Digital can be dangerous, it is also an aid, it helps us with what we are trying to help us achieve what we are doing today, we need to embrace it but not to get too carried away.”

Anyway, if I had been there my presentation would have been about digital refugees. The point, I assume, is that digital is impossible to define in such a way as to encompass everything that it has become to mean.

It is our whole world! Ha.
